What is Crowdsourcing?
Crowdsourcing is the process of getting work or funding, usually online, from a crowd of people. The word is a combination of the words 'crowd' and 'outsourcing'. The idea is to take work and outsource it to a crowd of workers.
In Business world, strategies are the main key for an organization which help them to take advantage and also improve different areas in their business, and crowdsourcing is one of the most important business ideas, used as an useful tool that help companies to involves by using the collective intelligence, mainly their customers in their internal and external analysis in order to find if they are covering for example all the needs of them or also to give the company a deep view of what customers want and need in a product or services.
Crowdsourcing is important now as a tool to companies, because it allows them to use new ways to get results and get a feedback of their products or services, for example, from an online community, rather than from traditional employees or suppliers; using blogs, social networking, YouTube and other mediums as these; because in this way they can reduce the amount of time that companies spend by collecting data in traditional sources as focus groups or trend research.
Other aspect by which crowdsourcing is key in a business, is because people which are not belonging from a company can become a valuable strategy to help companies to solve different problems, to get better performance and also to design ad campaigns, because sometimes it is good to have different points of view apart from your staff.
This technique also help to improve productivity and creativity in organizations, because by using these, they will get several points of view and thoughts, and as everyone is a world in their heads and no one think in the same way, companies will have different and crazy ideas to develop or improve their products or services which they offer to their clients; and also companies can minimize research expenses.
The weak spots about these techniques is that as they are not their employees they can control them, but they will demand many things like time, attention, patience, that you listen to them and also will seek compensation, recognition if they make something good and also freedom to be themselves and honesty, for example, to express what they think about your company and your products or services, without be punished. And it is why for traditional companies it may be difficult to prove for their management culture.
Finally, a factor that will help company to make customers commit in order to incentivize and motivate them, is to give exclusive perks such as discounts in products or cash prize, also give them fame like recognition because people love know that they are special, also the opportunity to interact with senior manager, to make them feel important like a VIP status and other option is give them free products, and in this way companies will gain the loyalty of their customers and they will worry about the company and make things better.
So, as a conclusion, crowdsourcing is an excellent technique for companies, if it is used in the best way, because more than reduce some expenses in hiring people to make different research at market; it also includes the principal factor which now can be called "The New Human Resource" for companies which are the customers, for the simple reason that they are the most important asset to a company and they are those that will help to understand what are their needs, their wants and how organizations can improve their failures and also these people can give like a blow of fresh air to companies with their creative and innovative ideas.
